Anyone Can Be a Politician
When Tara Haylin’s idyllic boating trip on the Atlantic Ocean goes terribly wrong, she pulls herself up by her bootstraps and makes the best of things. Although she’s been separated from her parents by a hurricane, she’s not ready to give up. Washed up on a small sand marsh, she uses basic survival skills to stay alive, though she has no idea how she’ll get back home. In a sudden shift of luck, Republican presidential nominee Ron Rogaine and his wife Trisha crash-land near Tara en route to the Bahamas. Ron knows a good thing when he sees it, and he’s been looking for an attractive young female running mate to add interest to his ticket. Tara fits the bill perfectly. Ron rescues her and takes her back to Boston, where he shoves her into the spotlight, harnessing the media frenzy around her beauty and her much-discussed outdoor skills. Ron knows that politics is like a high school popularity contest, and he figures he’s found himself the world’s best cheerleader. However, Ron has underestimated his opponent, Jermaine Intesh, who quickly sees through this ridiculous ruse and sets a plan in motion guaranteed to give him victory … and to change the face of the United States of America forever. Smart, fast-paced, and relevant, Population One provides a timely and entertaining wake-up call about the political process and the people who pull the strings.

Tara is Marooned on an island after the boat with her Mom and Dad gets tossed around by a storm. All by herself she is later found by a married couple. Husband of couple is running for President and needs a Vice President. Looking for "Eye Candy" as his running mate to bring in the younger voters, Tara is just what he is looking for. What would you say if you were asked this question...."Will you be my Vice President?"Belitch the author does a great character introduction and some hilarious dialogue. I am not big on politics and could give a rats ass on who is president. I would choose Homer Simpson as President and the Geiko Lizard as Vice President. But I still enjoyed this book.
I found myself cheering for Ron and Tara to win the race to the White House. I will not give away No more but will say I hated the character Svek. Narcissistic bastard...bah! can not stand those type of people. 4 Stars

Population One edition by Jerry Belitch Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The year of the political campaign is very much upon us and weathering the incessant blathering of ridicule and lower than low lambasting form both sides of the fence is becoming close to nauseating. Daily missives land in the email box begging for more money because party X is getting more money the party Y gives the impression that it is not the candidate and his issues that are being publicly aired for intelligent voter consideration before the polls open but rather the whole thing comes across as a game of monopoly - he who make the most money wins, and those billions of dollars are so much more needed by the people than by the pompous fighting artillery in the media.
So in the midst of all this ballyhoo and disenchantment with the US political system comes Jerry Belitch with a novel that is an absolutely hilarious parody of the whole game. Belitch is a comedy writer and a stand-up comedian so he knows how to get to the audience's funny bone. The characters and situations he has created for POPULATION ONE are spot on - and his run on the Sarah Palin look alike is as well written as anyone has produced. The story is well described in the package insert so it need not be reiterated.
No this is not great writing or the next great American novel. So why give it 4 stars? Because this is a respite, a pit stop for rethinking the madness that is rampant around us. People like Belitch help us survive, and if for no other reason (though the story is a very good one!) read this for a need moment of comic relief. Grady Harp, August 12
With our government as messed up as it is, it is great to read this book and laugh at the madness.. An unbelievingly funny book!!
Fast read, great satire. Population One accurately depicts political campaigns as the games they are, while addressing faults from both the Democratic and Republican parties.
At the start it appeared the author was leaning left, but as the story evolved
both sides got cut up pretty good.
His unusual sense of humor stretches way out of sight and you have to remember the story
is a well done satire.
Although the time frame was the 08 Election the books timely release works for the present election.
It was a easy read and fun.

Great read, I enjoyed the book! It allows the reader to see how fake and ridiculous the political atmosphere really is! I like how the author fictionalized Sarah Palin - Good stuff!
This book was a definite parody. There are some factual inaccuracies, but the story moved along well and stayed connected to the premise that the author is reaching for. Sometimes condescending but definitely amusing.
